    Politics

Apres moi, le deluge. In something eerily similar to that, within a week or so after the fall of Saddam's regime, the US government has started doling out contracts to various companies to help with the reconstruction of Iraq. Good idea eh, first destroy the country. Then rebuild it and make money out of it through control of the oil resources. The US has categorically refused to allow the UN any say in the process of rebuilding Iraq. The UN is just supposed to oversee humanitarian efforts. How did this humanitarian calamity come about? No-one is willing to answer that. Saddam's regime of evil was definitely responsible for it. But if the aim was to remove the regime, I'm sure a few nicely timed assassinations would have done the job. Now we're left with an Iraq minus its glorious history and I'm sure the people now harbour even more hatred of the US than previously.

    Cricket

The Indian team reached yet another one-day final. We've now reached 9 consecutive (so says a friend) one-day finals and won three of them now, two of them shared trophies (ICC Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka and this Who-cares-about-this tournament with South Africa). I suppose no other team can boast a record of 9 consecutive one-day finals in the recent past. I'm quite excited about this side. Ganguly needs to keep improving his street-smart skills. Today he won the toss, elected to bat first on an obviously damp surface (after some heavy showers yesterday when the final was to have happened) and had batting practice, knowing fully well that the game was going to be rained out. The Madras lingo for this is Semma Gaaji. Way to go Gangs!

Spent a magical 3 days at Trichy, roamed around the place with Krithi. Talked a lot. Encore!
