PoliticsAnother massacre in Jammu & Kashmir. This time its a few Kashmiri pandit families, including young children. The perpetrators were terrorists dressed in army uniforms! Its very worrying how J & K has been a problem for nearly 14 years now. Punjab, I think, lasted a lot lesser, perhaps only from 1983 or so till the late 80s. Can whatever was done in Punjab be replicated in J & K? Is there a very significant support to the anti-India movement from the general populace, higher than what the case was in Punjab? I'm also worried about the NDA government's handling of the Iraq situation. The government has refused to criticise the US led coalition. Presumably, this could be used as a bargaining tool for say a greater role in the Security Council or increased US pressure on Pakistan over support to terrorism etc. Politics has always been a quid pro quo game, but there're certain situations where countries need to take very firm positions. I think even the Jamaali government in Pakistan has criticised the US for its attack on Iraq. I'm sure Pakistan has more to lose than India by doing so. Labels: jammu and kashmir
