Earn in the US, retire in India?

David Kirkpatrick writes in his "Fast Forward" column on fortune.com that during his visit to India, he has been really impressed with the way Indians are trying their best to work hard, get ahead in life and improve their conditions. He finds it very enthralling that opulence and poverty can co-exist in such stark contrast, as witnessed by the hotels of Bombay and the ghettos around them.

Of course, he is blown away by the low cost of living here and dreams of a day when he will retire in India, living off the riches made in US dollars and spending in Indian rupees here, with the kind of luxuries he'd never have dreamed about: a housemaid, a driver, a cook, etc. and be connected with the US through the internet!

For sure Kirkpatrik ain't alone in dreaming such. Provided we're able to upgrade our infrasyructure to decent levels in the coming decade we can attract a lot of NRIs, PIOs and even firangs maybe. The concept of working in Britain while living closeby in france has taken off bigtime in Europe. How long before it will come down to people owing vacation or retirement homes in India while working abroad?
