As hoped in these columns a week ago, Henman got bundled out at Wimbledon. Mario Ancic, the Goran Croat clone, broke several English hearts as England's last hope of sporting glory this season disappeared in straight sets. Becker praises Ancic while Henman pins the blame on a very tight first set and a lowered confidence level in the next two sets.

I do pity Henman though. Its not like he's supremely gifted so its unlikely that he'll ever win a Grand Slam tournament. To get an idea of the kind of pressure he faces from the British public, consider that the Daily Mirror ran this headline after Sampras and Agassi were bundled out in the first week in 2002 - "No pressure Timbo, but choke now and we'll never forgive you.". At least he didnt blame the grass or lack of training.
