    Marc Andreessen on recruiting

For someone like me, who got hooked onto the internet in 1993, Marc Andreessen is a legend. Before I entered the NTU campus on 10 July 1993, I considered myself extremely privileged to have worked on a PC AT clone (80286) for my Std. 12 Computer Science project.

It felt like magic when I first used Email (sf918168@ntuvax.ntu.ac.sg, anyone?!), Gopher, IRC, etc. A friend showed me Lynx (perhaps in 1994) and while the connection seemed faster, I didn't see a big difference between using Lynx and using Gopher.

It was only when I used Netscape 1.0 for the first time (around end-1994 or early-1995) that I got truly blown away. That is why folks like Marc Andreessen, Tim Berners-Lee, etc. are awe-inspiring.

Marc has recently started blogging. Here's his take on hiring. While we're at it, another must-read post on hiring, by Guy Kawasaki. I guess both these posts are more relevant for hiring in the internet/software industry, but they may also be applicable to other industries.
