    1984 riots:Congress Party::AQ Khan::Pakistan Government

    Even as Sikhs were being massacred left, right and centre in Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and other parts of north India in 1984 following Indira Gandhi's assassination by her Sikh bodyguards, the newly elected/nominated Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi said, "When a big tree falls, the earth is bound to shake." That is about the most insensitive comment you expect from someone who is expected to protect the nation.

    The Nanavati Commission probing the pogrom feels that the Congress party cannot be held responsible for the actions of its members, like Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, HKL Bhagat etc., who apparently acted in their individual capacities.

    If we just extend that argument across the border, Musharraf or previous governments cannot be held responsible for the actions of the poor metallurgist who worked in his individual capacity. The US looks the other way in spite of them having the evidence because they arent pressing hard enough to gain access to interrogate Dr. AQ Khan.

    Right. If you can convince me about the previous two arguments, I'll do the David Lloyd thing and acknowledge that my backside is a fire engine.
