Thanks Nitin for this link from the Acorn. Natwar Singh, the new External Affairs minister has been in the thick of things ever since he took over. He's already caused a ruckus in the Pakistani diplomatic and political establishment with his alleged statement on the Simla accord of 1975 being the focal point for all negotiations with Pakistan. His semi-autocratic style of functioning and the fact that his statements reflect him to be living in a pre-1990s world are certainly not to India's advantage. Natwar Singh also seems to be thinking more as an opposition leader than as someone in the government. Musharraf, on the other hand, has very nicely capitalized on the confusion and his invitation to Sonia (and subsequent acceptance by Natwar Singh on Sonia's behalf) clearly is aimed at creating fissures in the government and its policies.
