    Quote of the day

There is no 'I' in 'Team', but fortunately, there is one in 'Vacation'

    Politics

After the 14 December assassination attempt on Musharraf, there have been increased fears in the west about Pakistan's fate if Musharraf does end up being killed or overthrown. The NY Times quotes a western diplomat as saying that in that eventuality, the #2 general (who is not a fundamentalist) would be in charge of the nuclear button and that there would be an orderly transition after general elections (which would be held within 3 months). Somehow, I think not!

The Musharraf regime hasn't been as democratic as it makes itself out to be. There've been lots of instances (mentioned in the NY Times article) about opposition leaders and journalists being arrested and harassed by the regime.
