CricketYet another controversy hits Indian cricket. This time its about a player (alleged to be Abhijit Kale) allegedly attempting to bribe two selectors for a place in an India A side to tour Sri Lanka (latest reports indicate that it was for a place in the Australia-bound India side rather than the A side). The BCCI has reacted by banning Kale until an inquiry was completed. This is a classical case of pronouncing guilty and passing judgement even before an investigation is done. This is indeed ironic, given the way the BCCI reacted to the Mike Denness incident in South Africa. The BCCI was instrumental in forcing the ICC to incorporate a right of appeal against Match Referee decisions, arguing that the previous system was against the principles of natural justice. Yet the same BCCI has chosen to react in the way it has and taken action against the player and preventing him from earning his livelhood without providing him the opportunity to present his case. The last word isn't out on this matter yet. Watch this space. Labels: ind v aus 2003
