    The real reason deciphered

There've been so many occasions where artists, movie makers etc. have been forced to withdraw their works since their creativity apparently affects the sentiments of one or more religions, castes, etc. in India.

Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee watched Rang De Basanti several times to convince himself and the rest of his cronies that references to MIG aircraft crashes were not derogatory. Information & Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Das Munshi as well as representatives of several Catholic and/or Buddhist groups, who have protested the release of The Da Vinci Code, will have watched the movie quite a few times before the decision on whether it will be released or not is taken.

The only explanation I have is that all these folks who protest against the release of these movies are so poor that they cannot afford the money to purchase their own tickets. So they opt for protests to get a free screening.

I haven't read the book, and I probably never will. I will also probably not see the movie. I don't know how closely the movie mirrors the book. If they're both similar, I wonder if countries asked for a ban on the book.

Desipundit links to other protests in the Indian blogosphere.
