Fire at ONGC's Bombay High platform

At least twelve people are confirmed dead with around fifteen people missing after Mumbai High North platform, belonging to ONGC caught fire. The cause of the fire has still not yet been determined, but speculation is that high tides in the sea, probably an off-shoot of the incessant rainfall in Bombay, rammed a supply vessel which caught fire and the fire then spread to the platform.

You can track the details of survivors and victims at the ONGC website.

One of Krithi's friends, Krishnan (email: ia_rkrishnan at rediffmail dot com), was at the site. He works there. We still do not have information on if he is ok. The list of survivors lists one "Radha Krishnan". We can only hope it is him.

As an aside, ONGC is confident of restoring production to 70% of the level in two weeks.

You can continue to follow the developments on Yahoo! and and Google news.

Update: Krithi's friend Krishnan is safe. Apparently he was on some other ONGC platform.
