Hindustan Petroleum wants you to pay and apply for a job

I happened to see an advertisement in the opportunities section of the Times of India, dated April 20. The ad was by Hindustan Petroleum. I don't exactly remember what the ad was for but the amount of effort a potential candidate had to put in to apply for the post was strikingly ridiculous.

So I visited their extremely flash-heavy site to find out what opportunities were up for grabs. The only one I could find was for an accounts officer position.

Anyone who wants to apply for this position has to use the format available in that PDF file. They need to send the application form via post. They need to also send in a non-refundable demand draft for Rs. 500 along with their application.

What kind of world are these chaps in? Candidates paying Rs. 500 for the privilege of applying for a position with them? It is obviously not a bribe, for they would not have advertised that! So what else is it? How many demand drafts do you think they would have got?

Thats one reason why I am really worried about returning to india... these huge corporates are the ones where I'd have a chance to work, given my masters and a thesis from here, but if they still have this attitude, I am worried.

    Btw, Reliance is no better!
