The Election Commission of India has a nice site where you can get lots of quirky details like the fact that the BSP has the most candidates (435) in this election, ahead of the Congress (417) and BJP (364). Mayawati's cadres are in fact contesting in just about every state. I think this is one way to ensure that all votes these candidates get contribute to the BSP's overall vote percentage so that there is no chance of the BSP being de-recognized as a national party.
