Almost 2 years after a scientist was made President, we have an economist as Prime Minister. I suppose from an ability perspective, no one doubts that APJ Abdul Kalam and Manmohan Singh will provide the leadership to the nation. What I do doubt is the ability of Manmohan Singh to carry along with him the various allies, those supporting from outside and those from within, those who're out to destabilize his government from outside and those from within. The bargaining has already started and it may not be too long before Singh realizes that this is but a sneak preview.
