Why call it queer?
Over the past 3-4 days, there've been multiple reports in Bangalore's newspapers about the Karnataka Queer Habba where individuals & organizations associated with homosexuality, sexual minorities, rights of sex-workers and sexual minorities will conduct various activities, including cricket matches, pride marches, discussions, film & theatre shows, etc.
I totally support everyone's right to indulge in consensual (informed consent, to use the legal term) sexual behaviour, regardless of whether it is homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual, assuming that both parties are also aware of the risks associated.
Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code related to 'Unnatural offences' makes no sense. It says
377. Unnatural offencesInterestingly it doesn't refer to carnal intercourse with plants. Why doesn't the law cover those? Is sex with plants not against the order of nature?
Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man,
woman or animal, shall be punished with 152[imprisonment for life], or with
imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and
shall also be liable to fine.
Explanation- Penetration is sufficient to constitute the carnal intercourse necessary
to the offence described in this section.
Being a homosexual, heterosexual, transsexual, etc. is an individual preference. To me, it's like choosing to be a vegetarian or non-vegetarian or choosing to be associated with a specific religion, sect or sub-sect. No-one, and really no-one, has a right to question your choice, especially on moral or social grounds.
It's not about whether homosexuality in humans is deviant behaviour or not. Using the known existence of homosexuality in animals to argue that homosexuality in humans is nothing to be surprised about is a dangerous line. After all, we find cannibalism and filicidal behaviour in animals as well. I'm not aware of too many people who'd support humans exhibiting such behaviour.
However, what I do find odd is the word 'queer' being used by the very people associated with the LGBT movement. 'Queer' has negative connotations and the synonyms associated would be "funny, odd, peculiar, unusual, strange".
Surely, if the LGBT movement really wants to ensure that those associated with it are treated normally, the one thing they could think about doing is to not call themselves 'queer' any more!

Putting ones tool into a males sewer pipe,& mouth,theres no other way of decribing that,other than queer!!When I`m happy I`m gay,not queer!
And how can one treat the abnormal,as normal? its a contradiction!!

I would be very interested in what you would call it?but call it for what it is,don`t try and lend it credibility by using words like gay,as gay has an entirely different meaning!
And I suppose aids came from monkeys,what a joke,don`t see any monkeys with an aids problem,do you?Keep poking, & licking around a sewer pipe & your bound to come up with something nasty,i.e.aids!
Choices,what about mass murderers like Hitler,terrorists etc and paedophiles,your saying their choices are ok too,are you??What a load of brainless crap!!
Dear Anonymous commenter(s) - I'm fairly sure you believe your points are valid. However, in my opinion, they'd have had so much more credibility if you hadn't posted anonymously. If you have conviction in what you say, why hide behind anonymity?

By the way,what do you think will happen when paedophiles get into posistions of influence as the queers did?not forgetting 20 years ago queers being legalised was just laughed off?

There's a Creative Commons license right at the bottom left corner which has my name on it. My Facebook & Twitter profiles are linked to in the navigation bar on the left. Yet, you claim I'm hypocritical and not adding my name to the opinions?
It depends on your view of what is criminal and what is not. Society changes. Cultures change. The definition of crime changes. Thousands of years ago, being a cannibal was probably not unacceptable. Now it is. Even until say a decade ago, someone from disadvantaged communities (blacks, dalits, women, etc.) being in positions of power was unthinkable of. Not now any more. Would paedophiles getting into positions of power make it bad? Yes, if they directly influence decision-making to the point where child sexual abuse is made lawful. No, if they don't.

A pervert is a pervert,your either for them or against them,you can`t just say one form of perversion is ok & legalise it,and another is`nt & condem them,thats being a hypochrite! My opinion is clear & simple,no grey areas, I`m against all perverts,& legalising any of them won`t make a jot of a difference to my,& many others opinions!
