The high farce in the Kannada movie industry continues with its ostrich-like stand since the ridiculous decision in August to impose a moratorium on non-Kannada movies such that they could be released in theatres only three weeks after they opened in their places of origin. Several Kannada film artistes had called for a state-wide bandh against theatres screening movies overriding the imposed moratorium. The bandh currently seems to have been called off.

As argued earlier in this forum, it just smacks of intolerance and lack of respect for people's right to see the movies they want rather than have something shoved down their throats or being forced to not see movies of their choice. Of course, the ban just means great business for those who deal in pirated CDs and that ends up affecting the cinema industry in other states. Do these self-styled custodians and preservers of Kannada culture care? Of course not!
