I feel it is none of India's business if the French government passes a law banning headscarves in schools and educational institutions. They have the mandate to do so. If French citizens (Muslims/Sikhs/Christians - whoever) are peeved with it, they have democratic ways of protesting against the decision. Manmohan Singh should not have put in a word with the French govt asking for the rule to be relaxed for Sikh schoolboys. What about schoolgirls then? What if they wanted to wear their dupatta such that it covered their head? The Prime Minister speaking up for Sikh citizens of France validates Jinnah's two-nation theory and attempts by Pakistan over the last 60 years to project itself as being the guardian of all of South Asia's Muslims.
