Even as Pakistan talks about co-opting China into the SAARC, ostensibly on the basis that it would counter India's influence in the group, it may not be a bad idea after all. Clearly China's and India's influence on world economics and politics (as if China isnt already) will grow over the next few decades. In such a situation, it makes perfect sense to gradually draft China into the SAARC, in perhaps the same manner that India has participated in the ASEAN. C Rajmohan feels that the existing good relationship between India and China will ensure that economic issues take precedence over political ones, since China has found out over the last 30 years that when your economy is in good shape and there're billions of dollars flowing in, political issues (or human rights for that matter!) can be put on the backburner.
